I am a forty year old mother of three amazing children and two adorable sugar gliders. At different times in my life, I have played many roles. Among them, I have been a student, a teacher, a mother, a daughter, a fiance, a wife, an artist, and an author. Throughout my life, I have been both strong and courageous, weak and afraid. I may be a product of my experiences and choices, but I refuse to let them define me. Life is truly a journey and I want to live and explore it to its fullest.
My first book, Unlovable: A Story of Abuse and Depression from Someone Drowning in the Abyss, is available for purchase in both paperback and e-book versions on Amazon.com. It is also available in paperback at Barnes & Noble.
I have an ongoing mental health blog, entitled Unlovable, which discusses my battle to become healthier through speaking out about my ongoing struggles with depression and abuse.
My mental health blogs have been featured on various other sites including:
I have an ongoing blog, entitled Living List, which details my efforts to learn to live my life more fully by turning my dreams and goals into reality, reaching outside my comfort zone and facing my fears.
B. L. Acker is the pen name I write under because my writing sometimes touches upon sensitive subjects like mental illness and suicide. While my children are aware of my diagnosis, I avoid putting my name out there so my children’s friends, acquaintances, teachers and coaches do not stumble upon my name and infer the connection. I respect my children’s privacy and their right to discuss the impact my mental illness has had on their lives in their own time and with only those they see fit to share it.
